Rivich Auction presents the estate of one of the most prominent families in Chicago and Milwaukee, the Hoyt-Drake Estate. Seeped in Chicago history, the Hoyt family was one of the original grocers in the late 1800s. Commissioning a large building on the original Fort Dearborn site, the Hoyt's commanded a presence in Chicago for many years. Thallis Hoyt married Douglas Drake, a sailor and architect, originally from Chicago, who studied under Mies van der Rohe during his time at Illinois Institute of Technology. Thallis worked towards her music education and appreciation through philanthropy for most of her life. After Douglas sailed around the world and earned countless regatta trophies, they built their legacy together in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Influenced by the work of van der Rohe, Douglas and Thallis created a home that would be featured in Better Homes and Gardens in the 1950s. Dive into this catalogue to view choice items from their Milwaukee estate in addition to pieces from either side's ancestors.
